This is the first victory Apple has achieved against Motorola, and drove patent expert Florian Mueller to observe the ruling could affect patent disputes with Android device makers worldwide.

Hot on the heels of word that the company won a major victory in a Chicago court today, reports are coming in now that the iPhone makers are looking to settle some of its lawsuits involving Android partners.

Apple has complained to the EC about Motorola Mobility’s behaviour regarding those patents, claiming that it was never given a fair shot at a licence, but interface elements aren’t essential to telephony so fall outside that complaint.

, has asked for between $5 and $15 per handset for some of its patents in one negotiation, or roughly 1% to 2.5% of net sales per device, another person familiar with the matter said.

A Luxembourg company called Core Wireless has launched a patent lawsuit against Apple, claiming that its patents, which cover communication protocols, are breached by any device that uses 2G, 3G or 4G standards.

Apple has filed a new “antisuit lawsuit” aimed at unraveling Motorola’s litigation efforts and attempts to block iPhone 4S using standards essential patents.

Keep in mind that Microsoft already collects at least $5 in licensing fees per handset sold from both of these companies.

Android licensees have prevailed in some cases, while Apple has prevailed in others.

Save for a few small injunctions in Germany, Apple has essentially been winning a majority of its battles against Samsung and Motorola in Australia, Europe, and here in the US.

Apple has switched off push notifications in Germany, responding to Motorola Mobility’s successful patent lawsuit, so iCloud users in Germany will have to learn to pull together.

Mueller goes on to say that if Google was hoping that acquiring Motorola would give it some sort of legal advantage in the ongoing Android patent wars, it should seriously consider paying the $2.5 billion breakup fee and walking away from the deal.
