Lab Tests Confirm Samsung Galaxy S III Is Dim

The Galaxy S III is Samsung’s new flagship Android phone, and like its Galaxy S II predecessor, it’s going to be the Android phone — the one among what feels like hundreds — to take on the iPhone (and the next iPhone).

If enabled, the Galaxy S III uses the front camera to monitor whether you’re looking at the screen (it searches for eyes) so that it doesn’t shut off or dim the display while you’re reading.

The culprit seems to be power management: in trying to get decent battery life with a huge 4.8 inch display, Samsung had to turn the brightness down.

It helps that the S III comes with a power savings mode you can enable to reduce the device’s performance to stretch its battery life — quite useful when on the road.

Samsung Galaxy S III users on Sprint are reporting that a “security update” for their phones has removed the universal search feature from Android.

The Galaxy S III has a 4.8 inch, Gorilla Glass 2.0 display, which makes the phone quite large, at least to those who don’t already have a larger screen phone.

Well, with your Samsung Galaxy S III, you can get that news delivered right to your phones lock screen.

Users can quickly and seamlessly share pictures taken with the Galaxy S III’s 8 megapixel camera to other phones from up to 200 feet away.

Turning off the automatic brightness option helped quite a lot; Soneira calls that function “positively awful and close to functionally useless,” an assertion with which we agree.

Otherwise, the Galaxy S III is the new king of smartphones.

Thanks to its low reflectivity, the screen is bright enough to use anywhere you need it – and the all around excellent performance of Samsung’s new phones have given them Editors’ Choice awards on every carrier so far.

The software features that Samsung has added really enhance the Android experience — and are what makes the phone catapult the HTC One line and other Android phones on the market.

But that percentage should climb quickly thanks to the Galaxy S III.
